If you are looking for an AAC option that will reliably and easily include videos and music files stored on that iPad that have been linked to play on a button then GoTalk Now is a tool that you should consider adding to your AAC toolkit.

When you export a Communication Book from GoTalk Now (or GoTalk Now Plus) using the “Share Compressed Book” option it fully embeds and includes all videos, music files, recorded audio, photos, etc.. and reliably includes those when backing up and sharing.

That’s why I recommend GoTalk Now (or GoTalk Now Plus) as a supplemental tool in the AAC toolbox for those who will be using lots of video clips or music.

Note: The free GoTalk Now Lite and inexpensive GoTalk Start versions of this app do not have a way to backup or share.

Resource Roundup: Gestalt Language Processing & AAC

There have been several discussions on social media over the past year related to how we might need to tweak AAC to better meet the needs of Gestalt Language Processors.

There are LOTS of pages, groups, websites and resources related to AAC, some related to Natural Language Acquisition/Gestalt Language Processing, and some related to echolalia. The resources included in this FREE handout are the main ones that I’ve found to be the most relevant to this combined topic of AAC and Gestalt Language Processing.

This guide walks you through the initial set up and customization process for the TD Snap AAC app with a focus on the Core First pageset being used via direct access touch with a finger by kids, teens or young adults on an iPad. Updated AAC Feature Matching Chart (10-18-21)…. now mentions features in these apps that may be helpful as folks are exploring ways to modify AAC for Gestalt Language Processors

I don’t typically release an update for the AAC Feature Matching Chart more than once a month but there were a couple of links that needed to be fixed. I also expanded the info related to how SLPs & SLTs can get access to the LAMP Words for Life app. That particular app is distributed differently in countries outside of the USA and Canada. Links to the Liberator websites have been added. I also put a designation on rows for features that may be helpful as folks are exploring ways to modify AAC for Gestalt Language Processors. I’ve also added links to social media groups and pages related to those discussions.
