.
Here’s what I love about the book:
  • Love the nice bright illustrations at the top of each page! I like that the animals and scenery are more prominent on each page yet the letter is still easy to spot.
  • Love the larger font & larger pose illustration at the bottom each page. Additional details about the poses are provided in the back of the book.
  • It’s a fun way to learn the names of Australian wildlife. Some are familiar (crocodile, whale, jellyfish, koala, etc…) but most would be new to those of us who do not live in that part of the world (brolga, echidna, goanna, numbat, quoll, etc…).
  • The Kids Yoga Stories Guide section included at the end of every book is full of great tips for setting up a fun & safe yoga storytime for kids. This is one of the extra features that makes Giselle’s books stand out.
  • A great new feature in this book is a free coloring page from Luke’s A to Z of Australian Animals: an Alphabet Coloring Book included at the end!

Review & A Way To Give Giveaway: Luke’s Beach Day from Kids Yoga Stories

Product Description:

Give Your Children the Healthy Benefits of Yoga with this Kids Yoga Stories Adventure Book. Join Luke’s beach adventure. Hop like a kangaroo, perch like a sea gull, and rest like a sea star as you act out this journey on an East Coast Australian beach. What else might you see? Learn something new, explore movement, and have fun together! Kids Yoga Stories introduce you to engaging characters who will get your child laughing, moving, and creating. Reading is good for the mind AND body! The story links several yoga poses in a specific sequence to create a coherent and meaningful story. This book for ages 4 to 8 is more than a storybook, but it’s also a unique experience for children.
  • Paperback: 46 pages
  • Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (May 7, 2013)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1481159127
  • ISBN-13: 978-1481159128

bar - green
Here’s what I love about the book:
  • Great eco-friendly theme as Luke & his friends clean up along the way in their adventure at the beach!
  • Each page in the book includes the targeted pose in bold font in the text & a picture of the pose in the top corner. This makes it easy to keep the flow in a kids yoga storytime especially for those who are new to yoga and may not know all the poses. Additional details are provided in the back of the book.
  • There are 18 poses in the book. Plenty to fill most kids yoga classes for the targeted age range (4-8 year olds). For a longer class, you could add poses for other animals or things you might see in the ocean or at a beach and talk about eco-friendly choices to extend the theme. Suggestions are provided in the book.
  • The Kids Yoga Stories Guide section at the end of the book is full of great tips for setting up a fun & safe yoga storytime for kids. Love this: “Ooze creativity, imagination and abundance. Encourage each child to tap into his or her own creativity and imagination through movement and breath. Welcome quiet times for reflection. Pause often. Remember, it’s not the end result, but the journey where miracles happen…“. Giselle’s passion and love for kids shines through :)
  • Love the inclusion of Savasana at the end of the book.
  • The book has bright colorful illustrations & a nice easy-to-read font size.
  • The book is available in English & Spanish versions.

List Price: $12.95

  • Paperback: 40 pages
  • Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (December 7, 2012)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 1479317845
  • ISBN-13: 978-1479317844
  • Product Dimensions: 11 x 8.5 x 0.1 inches

Where to Purchase: Available on their website w/ PayPal: http://www.kidsyogastories.com/%20lukes-a-to-z/ & on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Lukes-Australian-Animals-Alphabet-Coloring/dp/1479317845/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1357165586&sr=1-1

Here’s what I love about this book:

  • A picture of the kids yoga pose is in the corner of each page
  • The targeted vocabulary for each letter is in bold font
  • The font is large & easy to read
  • The alphabet letter is large but more faintly shown than the rest of the picture on each page. This will make it fun for kids to look for the letter (an easy version of a seek-and-find)
  • It’s a fun way to learn the names of Australian wildlife. Some are familiar (crocodile, whale, jellyfish, koala, etc…) but most would be new to those of us who do not live in that part of the world (brolga, echidna, goanna, numbat, quoll, etc…).
  • The 6-page Parent-Teacher Guide section at the end of the coloring book is a goldmine of great tips for setting up a fun & safe yoga storytime for kids. Gotta share this quote from the book: “Ooze creativity, imagination and abundance. Encourage each child to tap into his or her own creativity and imagination through movement and breath. Welcome quiet times for reflection. Pause often. Remember, it’s not the end result, but the journey where miracles happen…“. She also gives several ideas for extension activities. Giselle’s passion and love for kids & learning shines through :)
  • Lots of great verbs & adjectives will make this book fun to use in my work as a Speech-Language Pathologist (ex: a crocodile snoozing in the swampy mangroves, a platypus paddling in a murky river, etc…).
  • LOVE the combination of nature, alphabet/early literacy skills, coloring & movement….. what a fun way to tap into “multiple intelligences”! Add some Australian music & affirmations to tap into a couple more. (More info about this concept at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/education/ed_mi_overview.html & http://comicsworkshop.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/poster-02-mi_actions-11×17.jpg)

Kids Yoga Stories is having a 15% off sale from July 18 to 21, 2012 at www.kidsyogastories.com! (sale price is only available on items purchased directly through their website)

Here’s what I love about this book & coloring book:

  • Great eco-friendly theme! Sophia & her friends are in an Environment Club at school 🙂
  • Each page in the book includes the targeted pose in bold font in the text & a picture of the pose in the top right corner.
For a longer class, you could add poses for other animals you might see in a jungle and talk about conservation/eco-friendly choices to extend the theme. Suggestions are provided in the book.
  • Each page in the coloring book includes the name of that item in the story, the name of the pose and illustrations of both Sophia doing the pose and some of the elements from that scene in the story. The illustrations and font sizes are large & clear.
  • The Parent-Teacher Guide section at the end of the book & the coloring book are goldmines of great tips for setting up a fun & safe yoga storytime for kids. Gotta share this quote from the end of both books: “Ooze creativity, imagination and abundance. Encourage each child to tap into his or her own creativity and imagination through movement and breath. Welcome quiet times for reflection. Pause often. Remember, it’s not the end result, but the journey where miracles happen…“. Giselle’s passion and love for kids shines through 🙂
  • Love the inclusion of Savasana at the end of the book & the idea of Sophia putting her notebook on her belly!
  • The book has bright colorful illustrations & a nice easy-to-read font size.
  • Lots of great vocabulary & descriptive language will make this book fun to use in my work as a SLP 🙂

Here’s a “sneek peek” inside the book & coloring book:
