The “LIGHTS…CAMERA…RRR!” DVD – in high-definition, has 10 music videos of songs from the CD “GIVE ME AN RRR!”. Rockin’ Ron the Friendly Pirate and a bevy of buccaneers act out each song’s lyrics. Because it was mimed, this collection was almost called “Loose Ships, Lip Sync”.  A historic hand-painted curtain depicting a castle, sea waves, and a sailing ship, served as the backdrop to the action. Pirate props and signs were also deployed.  Seven Days (Vermont’s Arts and Entertainment Weekly) says of the music “Goofy enough to delight young scallywags and roguish enough to keep Raffi-weary parents from walking the plank”. [length: 24 minutes]

CD:

Rockin’ Ron the Friendly Pirate’s CD “Give Me and RRR!” has been described as the crew of Monty Python meeting the cast of Sesame Street on a pirate ship – singing chanteys for kids and adults. In fact, the CD is rated RRR for Pirates of all ages!

Here’s what I love about the songs:

• Love the “friendly” & fun nature of the songs…… no scary or mean pirates here. One “cranky” pirate….. but he’s funny 🙂
• Welcome Aboard is a fun song to play as kids are entering the class to set the pirate mood.
• The Buccaneer Bounce & FP Dance are hilarious & fun ways to get kids moving.
• Pearl the Purple Pirate Princess gets girls in on the pirate fun.
• Twinkle Twinkle Little StaRRR is a fun twist on a familiar song.
• Treasure of Smuggler’s Notch is fun for kids to listen to clues to guess what the treasure is.
• For all my fellow SLPeeps…. Give Me an RRR! is a funny way to work on vocalic /ar/ as the song goes through lists of that sound in the initial and final positions.
• Get creativity flowing with Hungry Pirate. It lists all the unusual foods a pirate would eat (ex: octopus oatmeal, plankton pancakes, stinky sharkfin sandwich, barnacle biscuits, swordfish stew, etc. It would be fun to have kids think up other crazy food alliterations (both words start with the same letter).
• The Seven C’s is my favorite song! If you haven’t heard this song yet you should….. a really cool way to incorporate some yamas/niyamas into a pirate themed class! “there’s COURTESY, COMPASSION and a bit of COURAGE too. With CLEANLINESS and CLEVENESS they’re good for me and you. Plus CHEERFULNESS and CHARITY now that makes Seven C’s.…”
