Review & Giveaway: Move With Me Adventure Skills Cards

Move with me adventure skills cards giveaway

One of the things I love most about the Move with Me™ Action Adventures DVD’s is the “Adventure Skills” they include in each story. As I watched each DVD, I remember thinking that having a card for each skill would be especially helpful for the kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, anxiety & other special needs that I work with as a Speech-Language Pathologist and even had the idea of taking “screenshots” off the DVD’s to make my own cards. Of course I never had the time to do that with my busy schedule. So imagine my pure delight when I saw that the company had come out with a flash card set!

Product Description: It is a 13 Flash Card Set that includes all the “Adventure Skills” (health lessons and self-regulation techniques) from the Scooter & Me video series

  • 5.5” x 8.5” cards with colorful illustrations on the front and directions on the back.
  • Easy-to-use visual aid to teach/reinforce the use of Adventure Skills to improve well-being, focus, learning, impulse control and emotional resilience and intelligence.
  • Effective teacher tool for behavior management.
  • Engaging activities that support social-emotional learning.
  • Adventure Skills are short exercises that help children relax and connect with inner strengths when frustrated, confused, angry, sad or scared. Each technique is simple to do, can decrease stress, contribute to increased focus, coordination and self-control and improve social skills and emotional intelligence. All movement and self-care techniques are inspired by yoga, creative movement, PE standards, mind-body research and Brain Gym.

I love that each card includes information about why, when & how to use the Adventure Skill. Eleven of the cards also include a short rhyming “chant”.

Here’s a “sneek peek” at the front & back of one of the cards:

  1. This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to the winners: Jenny Williams of Happy Planet Yoga and Melissa Huse of Kid Partners, Inc. (both benefitted from using the “bonus” entry options). Your info has been e-mailed to the company to mail out the prizes. Thanks to everyone who participated! It was especially touching to read all the entry comments & I wish we could send a prize to each of you. Be watching for another fun review & giveaway on OMazing Kids soon

    Two winning entries:

    1. Jenny Williams, Happy Planet Yoga – These cards would be very helpful to me. I teach yoga to preschoolers and Kindergarteners and all of these cards are so appropriate and complimentary to themes that I teach in my yoga classes. These cards make learning life skills and yoga fun! The children are learning and mimicking the poses or actions on the cards and all the while gain very important knowledge in a fun interactive way. This young age group may not have daily physical activity (especially in the winter – I live in the Northeast) these cards are great ways to incorporate movement and knowledge in to small snippets of time that easily keep children’s attention and get them moving. This is why my weekly yoga class is so important during the winter months! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Happy-Planet-Yoga/267920929910987?fref=ts

    2. Melissa Huse, Kid Partners, Inc. – As an occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist and co-owners of Kid Partners, Inc., we work with many children of all abilities from infancy through school age. In addition to our home and community based occupational, speech-language, physical and developmental therapy services, we enjoy working with children and their families at our Yoga Events & Classes, Kids Night Outs, and Summer Camps, and we look forward to our first Kids Carnival in May. These Move With Me Adventure Skills cards look like a great way to help kids exploring moving and learning about their bodies. Many children have sensory processing differences or difficulties with attending and participating in more structured activities, and visual cues are often helpful. These cards and activities look like a great tool to use with kids who are practicing self-regulation and learning about their own bodies. We have liked Move With Me’s Facebook page, and look forward to seeing updates and insight from them. Thanks for sharing this information, OMazing Kids! Other entries:

    3. Children love visual aids..They love feeling empowered by discovering their ability in poses themselves. With cards, they are able to learn and practice poses in their own space and their own time, and then share it with others when they feel confident enough to share/teach. They are a great inspiration tool for adults as well. They allow for a well rounded practice with easy to use tools. And they are fun.

    4. As a kindergarten teacher, I’m working on having my students be more mindful of how they feel and how their actions influence their friends. This would be wonderful to incorporate into our classroom yoga and mindfulness practice. Carried Away in Kindergarten http://carriedawaykindergarten.blogspot.com

    5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher in a Title I Miami school. My class has children of varying learning styles with a variety of needs, some diagnosed and documented. Other diagnosed simply by my experience and gut feeling. I have just completed the Asana Alphabet training…WONDERFUL….just being this past weekend:-)).and am looking for ways to incorporate yoga into my non transition timed, back to back academic oriented schedule…..Wheew!!! With the State Standardized test for Kers fast approaching, the dreaded SATS, I am looking for activities to put into snatches of time that will allow my little ones to calm, regroup and focus. With the emphasis on Crunch Time to SAT packets in the next few weeks I need a variety of tools to keep my little ones from putting on that dreaded cloak “FEAR OF SATS”. Please help me achieve this!!!!.

    6. These cards would be super helpful for the family classes and workshops I teach! I find a lot of kids respond well to visuals. Kids also love choice so these cards would allow kids to have a visual of what they are supposed to be doing as well as having an option of choosing from a few cards which pose we would do. Kaia Studio

    7. These cards look like a lot of work and love went into each card. It looks like the reasoning behind each activity will benefit the instructor/teacher and the older children. I work with Head Start children 3-5 yr olds and 14-18 yr old children. The younger children giggle alot and the older children take it more seriously. I believe that they would truly enjoy knowing how the activities benefit their bodies. I also teach science to many of these girls so the why’s are important to them. The preschoolers can enjoy tidbits of how their bodies are benefiting their bodies. We talk about the benefits to their bodies in everything we do such as drinking your milk builds strong bones and teeth, etc. They know that when we do breathing activities it is to calm them and to focus them to what I have to say. I sincerely hope I am the lucky recipient of this wonderful gift that I believe would benefit the children and me in so many ways. Thank you in advance no matter how this goes. I will purchase them if I don’t win. I want them badly. Geminus Lake Ridge Head Start and Hi Def after school program for high schoolers.

    8. I would be using these cards in the yoga classes with elementary students who have severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. Easley Elementary

    9. I am a therapist and work with kids who have autism and similar challenges. These cards would be a great addition and another tool for them. Christina Sullivan and associates llc

    10. I am a yoga teacher for children in the public and private schools, Yokids yoga, these would be a very helpful tool in our everyday teachings in the classroom!! Nettie YoKids yoga

    11. I am a pediatric physical therapist and kids yoga instructor who provides services to children with developmental disabilities. Many children with physical and cognitive delays are sedentary. I would use these cards to teach the children and their families fun and interesting ways to be active. Calm Kids Yoga, Riverside Early Intervention and Brockton Early Intervention http://calmkidsyoga.weebly.com/

    12. These cards would be helpful to me when I get my own classroom finally. I feel like I am going to be the only forty year old first year teacher in the world. These cards will help me continue with my philosophy to teach the whole student; academically, socially, and emotionally as well as continue to encourage physical activity as a way to counter stress. Symonds elementary

    13. I am a yoga teacher, a mother of two young yogis, and I teach children’s yoga. I am starting my 95 hour Yoga Alliance registered children’s yoga teacher training in early April. http://www.yogabybecca.com

    14. I think these cards would be an excellent way to help children with ADHD learn self-regulation. Movement and yoga are a helpful way to not only get your wiggles out, but also to calm and center. The illustrations would be very helpful for those that are more visual learners. Forsyth country day school http://Ausomelysocial@wordpress.com

    15. These cards would help me because I am a third grade teacher and love to move in my classroom with my students. I also offer movement in the mornings to all ages before school begins. Newport City Elementary School

    16. As a children’s yoga teacher, educator, and parent of 3 young children, we practice yoga EVERY day! I love following the OMazing Kids page for fresh and fun ideas to use in my yoga classes, at school, and at home. These cards would get plenty of use inspiring new, fun yoga activities for many kids for years to come! https://www.facebook.com/YogaWithLauraIL
