Review & Giveaway: Sing Song Yoga DVD

Sing Song Yoga DVD

Description:

Sing Song Yoga is a kid’s yoga program that uses original children’s songs, sung to familiar tunes, to teach the poses. Each pose has a song in which the lyrics instruct the children how to get into the pose. Singing the instructions in a simple rhyming song makes everything easy to follow and remember.

You can choose to “Play All Poses” from the menu or can play one section at a time by choosing: “Standing Poses,” “Sitting Poses,” or “Floor Poses”. Whichever program your child uses he or she will begin with the welcome song and end with a yoga relaxation.

(Ages 3 & up; DVD Running Time: 44 minutes; Language: English)

Your Child’s Brain on Sing Song Yoga: Educational researchers are finding a link between music and movement, and success in school. One researcher, Shirley Handy discusses the 3 M’s: music, movement and merriment. The 3 M’s naturally increase the positive neurotransmitters and peptides in the brain, which are associated with memory, with new learning, and with the ability to pay attention. When the 3 M’s are combined in one activity it is especially brain-friendly which gives children a head start to learning. Sing Song Yoga™ specifically incorporates the 3 M’s.

Charity: Each year Sing Song Yoga chooses a different charity to which they donate 10% of the proceeds from their online sales. See info about the 2012 charity: http://www.singsongyoga.com/2012-charity-of-the-year/

Eco-Friendly Packaging: Packaged without plastic. The recycled board with a UV coating protects your DVD and at the same time is beautifully designed. Best of all packaging without plastic makes it lighter, saving you on shipping, and has a low environmental impact.

What I LOVE about this DVD:

  • The Sing Song Yoga kids are included in the entire DVD, including introduction section. Kids love to learn from other kids 🙂
  • The tunes are fun, really do stick in your head and will be a great multi-sensory way for kids to learn yoga.
  • By having the DVD divided into sections (standing poses, sitting poses & floor poses), it will be easy to chose the section that best fits the environment you are in and the kids you are working with.
  • More challenging poses include a symbol & verbal cue that the child will need the assistance of an adult for that pose.
  • LOVE the instruction “There are different ways you can do this pose. Choose the way that works best for you.” along with demonstration of kids doing modifications of poses.
  • Great that it includes Savasana relaxation.

  2. Here are the comments from the entries received via the “Enter Giveaways Here…” tab on the OMazing Kids Facebook page:

    * Well I have a 2yrs old boy he have autism and since you go to Oklahoma City Educare and my older son have a class with you I start doing yoga and dance with my kids. My 2 yrs old start doing what brother and I do (yoga and dance) but To be honest I just do what my older son say because I don’t have experience on yoga. Thanks and if I don’t won any ways I would like to say thank you for what you do in Educare.

    * I am an early head start educator for infants and toddlers and am teaching Creative Play & Movement class for young children from 2 – 6 years old. In the Creative Play & Movement class we play children yoga, sing, move, dance, have fun with creative play and expressive arts. With this Sing Song Yoga DVD I believe I can include more enriching elements to the class as children by their nature sing and move to learn. I would love more ideas on how to connect songs with poses so children can enjoy the yoga-based play session to develop their body and mind. Information and classes on kids yoga are very limited at Malaysia, especially at the area where I stay. This DVD will be a great resource for me and children in my class.

    * I would be using this DVD to help my younger students learn new poses. As a former music teacher, I’m always looking for new tunes to use in class. The kids always respond to music in class. 🙂

    * We do internet public school here at home, and my daughter has a daily PE requirement. She loves doing yoga as her PE. It helps her relax and focus (she has severe ADD, and can’t sit still or pay attention), and get ready for the second half of her school day.
She also loves music, and anything that combines music and movement is great in her book!

    * In combination with practice, as a tool of engagement. My daughter loves to dance and sing during her accomplishments. Yoga is our every day accomplishment.

    * DVD sounds like it’s got several applications. I have 2 children, a 5 yr. old and 8 yr. old. The DVD would be great to use with both of them. I’m also starting a mom/caregiver and me yoga class for children 2-4 yrs. old. The songs from the DVD would be great to use in that class to help the children and caregivers find their way.
Little kids love songs so I’m sure they would be singing along by the end of our 6 week session! Finally, it’s just nice to have another useful tool to use in yoga classes. I could see singing the songs out in the classes for the older kids and adults that I teach too just for variety from time to time.

    * I am currently pursuing my kids yoga teaching certification and would use this DVD to help me teach a kids yoga class next summer!

    * I will use the DVD with the special needs kids I work with. Music is often a modality that many of my kids really enjoy and learn from. We often usor songs and jingles during our yoga practices. The kids’ smiles are so precious when they hear a favorite tune.

    * I would love to start doing this with my 4 year old little girl.

    * I am RYT200 and would love to incorporate some of these ideas in my kids classes. But REALLY I’d love to do this with my OWN kids 🙂

    * I’ll love to use the DVD at yoga class (: THANKS!!!

    * In yoga class with preschoolers

This DVD sounds great for a ‘mom/caregiver and me’ yoga class I have for children 2-4 yrs. old. The songs from the DVD would be great to use in that class to help the children and caregivers find their way. Little kids love songs, but so do big kids; I could see using this with my older yoga students for variety.

As a former music teacher, I obviously believe in the power of music. I am always on the lookout for new tunes to use in my yoga classes. I think this would be particularly helpful for my younger preschool students who are new to yoga.
