Help kids explore the concept of “loving kindness” with this great new book!
This new book in the “Audrey’s Journey” series teaches kids the concept of offering love & happiness to themselves, to their family and to all living creatures. “May ___ be safe. May ___ be happy. May ___ be peaceful. May ___ be healthy. May ___ walk with love in ___ heart.”. The book is beautiful and I LOVE the concept of teaching kids to send loving kindness & positive thoughts….. however in the settings I work in I have to be very careful to avoid using words that convey any religious connotation. Folks here view “meditation” in that light. I will still use this book with the kids but will modify how I read it (by substituting “love”, “this” and “loving kindness” for “metta” and “meditation” ).

Here are the comments from the entries received via the “Enter Giveaways Here…” tab on the OMazing Kids Facebook page:
Grand Prize Winning Entry:
I would love to have a copy of this book so that I could do a volunteer read aloud at my local library. My community has a high percentage of children who meet poverty guidelines. They also mostly have parents who are non-English, or limited English speakers. As a result, they face daily stress. I think introducing them to meditation through this way would be great. I would borrow a drum from our local music shop (who’s very phillantrophic) and use it as a prop to engage the children. Pick me 🙂 please??
3 Book Winner Entries:
I am a kindergarten teacher who works more on a social curriculum than an academic one. Kids will be ready to learn core curriculum when their minds feel safe and happy. To that end, we start the day with yoga poses, talk about how certain actions can change how we feel, and read loads of stories like “Zen Shorts” by Jon Muth. I think Audrey’s Journey would help me make my classroom the place kids of all ages want to be.
This looks like a great book to add to my kids yoga collection. My daughter will be heading to kindergarten this year and son to preschool. I think that loving kindness is one of the most important things we can teach our children, especially when sending them out into the world. I am also planning on doing some karma yoga with my Child Development Centre and this would be a great book to include.
Hi! I would love to receive a copy of this book to use. I am a registered yoga teacher and I teach yoga to kids. I volunteer my time teaching throughout the school year at a local elementary school and am looking to expand to at least one more elementary school and a teen center this next school year. I think that yoga is such an important skill for kids to learn at a young age. Not only do they learn about their bodies but also about life, about compassion, patience, pride, kindness, and so many other wonderful values… all without being “religious”. I am so happy and proud to be able to have an impact on as many kids as I do. I am always looking for books to use and new ways to reach the kids and excited them about yoga and life. Thanks!
Other Entries:
I work with a group of toddlers in my home-based center. I recently participated in a ‘Storyoga’ workshop and am looking at titles to increase our ‘peacefulness’ and
yoga-movements. This book seems like a really great one!
I would use it in my yoga class when we focus on being kind and doing for others.
I love to use books in my kids yoga classes.
This book would serve as a wonderful resource for my Storytime Yoga classes for kids ages 3-12 in Jacksonville, FL!!
I take care of 6 toddlers every day, I will be able to use this as a teaching tool for them 😉
I am a mom & school social worker in a bldg of over 800 kids. Personally, I’m committing to daily loving kindness meditation each day of year. I am participating in Mindful Education Institutes yearlong training of 90 educators, yoginis, therapist across nation including 4 from Canada & 1 from Thailand. Will be creating secular mindful curriculum for kids and to train teachers, staff & parents. Would LOVE to share your book w/ kids, training cohort & parents. I dream of having kids & families doing daily loving kindness meditation. I CAN imagine that. I will do what I can to cultivate those loving kindness seeds. Excited to learn about your new book!
