This is Gabriel: Making Sense of School – 2nd Edition: A Book about Sensory Processing Disorder
I love that this book is written from the perspective of a child with Sensory Processing Disorder and describes each of the senses in a way that most kids, parents, teachers & therapists can understand. It is a great intro to SPD and would be a great way to explain SPD to a parent & child who is newly diagnosed, provide info a teacher who will be having a child with SPD in her/his classroom, etc…. This book does a great job of providing a brief easy to understand overview of SPD and provides links at the end where readers can find more in-depth info and resources.

Here are the comments from the entries received via the “Enter Giveaways Here…” tab on the OMazing Kids Facebook page:
* I will use the book in my role as a School Social Worker to help students to better
understand themselves, help classrooms better understand their peers and use it for
parents, siblings & staff to better understand how kids show up in the world. It will be
a WELCOMED resource as a way to bring about empathy, compassion, understanding & change. Thanks!
* I am an equine therapist working to heal children with a wide range of difficulties and
a teacher for young ones in a HeadStart program, and a yoga teacher for kids with
specialties. 🙂 I would use it for my own information to become a better facilitator of
life for them, to empower and educate themselves.
* Mom to my 7 year old son, who was born weighing 1 pound…to help him with sensory
issues. Thank you!
* As an Occupational therapist working in clinic, home and school settings I would use it
to help children understand and see themselves but also for family education. I love
having books that families can use with siblings, read in waiting area, etc. This would
be a nice addition.
* I would use this book to help me with my teaching and understand my students needs. I am both a preschool teacher, and a children’s yoga teacher, in both roles I encounter
children with a variety of needs, and more often I am finding my preschoolers to need
help with daily challenges associated with their senses of touch and sight. I hope this
book would give me better insight in how I can help my students succeed in the classroom and in life.
