Here’s what I love about this book & playset:

  • The beautiful rhyming words flow easily as you read this book outloud & inspire kids to think about all the gifts of nature and living creatures from forest, jungle, or sea that live in our world and a plea to take care of them.
  • The illustrations by Alexandra Ball are breathtaking! Really more works of art than just illustrations.
  • I love the gentleness of both the words & illustrations. Both evoke feelings of calmness & kindness. I love that the message of caring for the earth is done in a kid-friendly way.
  • The book & playset items are printed with soy ink.
  • The playset animals & trees are made of very thick, sturdy cardboard. The kids I work with tend to be very rough on things so I am planning on having the items preassembled when I use them. I wrote the name of the item on each base using a very fine-tip permanent market before I punched the items out to aide in easy assembly. The items have to be taken apart to fit back in the storage box.
  • The playset is wonderful to use to work on vocabulary, following directions, spatial concepts, adjectives, etc….

Here’s a “sneek peek” inside the book & playset:

Also check out Alexandra Ball’s, the illustrator, websites & social media pages: http://www.alexandraball.co.uk/, http://www.illustrationweb.com/artists/AlexandraBall/viewhttp://www.facebook.com/AlexandraBallIllustrationhttp://twitter.com/miss_bally_ball, http://pinterest.com/missballyball/my-illustrations/. She was SO kind to share black and white illustrations from the book to use as coloring sheets with the kids! Since the theme of the book is all about kindness & caring it was really cool to be able to tell the kids how the illustrator shared these via e-mail all the way from the UK :)

Here is a 6-page PDF coloring booklet I put together with a cover, the illustrations above and kids kindness & peace pledges: care for our world coloring sheets and kids kindness & peace pledges (6-page PDF).

The kids LOVED coloring as part of relaxation at the Inclusive OMazing Kids Yoga Class at JDMC! It was the Monday following the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado so this book & coloring activity were a perfect way to share a message of peace & kindness :)

  3. Here are the comments from the entries received via the “Enter Giveaways Here…” tab on the OMazing Kids Facebook page:

    Grand Prize Winning Entry:

    * I am a visual arts and movement teacher in a public school. The school where I teach is primarily low socio economic and a true inner city urban school with the challenges that come with that. I have created a curriculum that integrates visual arts and yoga to help address and teach students about self care, global awareness, and overall build self esteem. It is a unique opportunity. Since we are a school that has a huge free/reduced lunch population I often spend my own money and scramble constantly for resources. This would be fantastic to be able to share with my beautiful and amazing students. Thank you!

    Book Winner Entries:

    * How fun! I would use the set in my preschool Montessori yoga class. First I would hide all the little animals around the room. Then the kids would come in and we would read the story. Then, each child would have a turn to spy something from the book hidden in the room- he or she would go find the cutout, and we’d all do a yoga pose that matched it! Fun!

    * These look beautiful! I am a first grade teacher, and try to promote care and consideration for our earth and the animals that live there. I would use this book during our earth week, and have each student choose an animal to research and write about. I think holding the toy of the animal would really increase their excitement. I would also love to let my students play with the playset in small groups acting out ways they could be friendly to animals and the earth. Thanks for the chance!

    Other Entries:

    * I am a brand new teacher at an Early Head Start Program. I was hired specifically to work yoga in to the curriculum, especially for the infants and toddlers already facing cognitive, physical, mental, developmental difficulties. This set seems ideal to nurture a love for the practice of yoga and stories and our dear sweet Mother Earth all at once for these precious little ones. Thank you!

    * My 3 year old daughter plays with anything that she can pretend are dolls or animals. If she won this set her silverware, pencils, food, and crayons would hopefully go back to their intended purpose. The book, its interactive animals and trees coupled with the fabulous message would be something she could learn from while she plays with them for hours. Literally. She loves any small dolls or toys and her conversations are absolutely adorable. I would love to hear her role play take on a positive environmental tone. It looks like a very well made set with a fabulous theme!

    * I am thinking this would be great for younger kids as well as older. I would develop a kids yoga class around the book. Maybe having each child pick an animal and demonstrate or make up a pose that represents it. Just my first thoughts…who knows!

    * As an Occupational therapist and kids yoga instructor this book and playset provides fine motor activities along with opportunity to perform animal poses, and have good insightful discussions. I especially visualize using it in April for Earth day classes

    * I would love to win this so that I could use it for my Yoga Kids classes!

Two entries were not eligible due to being outside the USA:

    * I am teaching 4 young kids this summer as their parents have no childminders so started bringing them to yoga with them, we do colouring and drawing our favourite poses while Mums do relaxation

    * I am an Educator at a large child care centre and I would use the playset as part of our program around the environment and moving toward a sustainable future.

I am a brand new teacher at an Early Head Start Program, hired specifically to bring yoga into the curriculum. I am working intensively with a few of the infants and toddlers already diagnosed with various challenges. This set would help spread the love for yoga, for each other, for life, and for Mother Earth! Thank you!
